Innovative Strategy & Commentary for #2 - Millionaire Game
In week 3 of my Health Education and Promotion (GCH 350) course, I record, “Who Want's To Be A Millionaire,” lecture to kick off the week.
The questions in the game are from that week’s theories and planning models material. I use my roster and call on 15 students in the course to answer the questions in the game.
This assignment reflects my core teaching principles by intentionally establishing instructor presence and fostering meaningful student engagement in an online environment. By reviewing the course roster and watching students’ week 1 introductory videos, I demonstrate a commitment to getting to know each learner as an individual. Midway through the activity, I step out of character to explain that I am calling on students in our class, highlighting that their participation is noticed and valued. The activity also models how health information can be presented in ways that are interactive, engaging, and approachable online. Students’ positive feedback in their assignment responses to when their names are called, reinforce the importance of connection, trust, and a sense of belonging, key elements of my student centered, active learning approach.
